Vacancy AnnouncementAssistant Scientific OfficerSpecies ProgrammeSalary range £15,645 - £20,860 per annum The UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC), based in Cambridge UK, is the specialist biodiversity information and assessment centre of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), run cooperatively with WCMC 2000, a UK charity. UNEP-WCMC's mission is to evaluate and highlight the many values of biodiversity and put authoritative biodiversity knowledge at the centre of decision-making. Since its establishment in the 1970s, it has been at the forefront of the compilation, management, analysis and dissemination of global biodiversity information, and has an outstanding record of achievement. A position now exists for an Assistant Programme Officer to assist with the implementation of projects and data analysis relating to international, species-related conventions and agreements in particular in the area of international wildlife trade. This enthusiastic, experienced, self-starter will be able to demonstrate excellent numerical skills, data analysis experience, good working knowledge of CITES and the EU wildlife trade regulations, as well as the ability to write scientifically credible reports. The salary is negotiable within the Centre's existing bands. This enthusiastic, experienced, self-starter will be able to demonstrate a proven track record in project management, research, data analyses, international conservation exposure, as well as the ability to write scientifically credible reports. Date 25th September 2008 Vacancy AnnouncementProgramme OfficerClimate Change & BiodiversitySalary range £19,296 - £35,462 per annum Two exciting new positions now exists for Programme Officers to provide support to our programme of work relating to new and existing projects within the Climate Change and Biodiversity Programme. The successful candidates will play a key role in the work of the CC&B Programme, developing, coordinating, and assisting with the implementation of a range of projects relating to: international climate policy and its impact on biodiversity (especially biofuels and reducing emissions from deforestation); the impact of climate change on biodiversity; carbon storage and sequestration services provided by natural ecosystems. These are permanent full-time posts, and the salary is negotiable within the Centre's existing band.
