Commercialization of Non timber forest products in Mexico
and Bolivia: factors influencing success (CEPFOR) DFID FRP
R7925 / ZF0137.
The purpose of this project is to evaluate the contribution
that NTFPs make to the livelihoods of forest-dependent rural
poor in developing countries. NTFPs contribute both directly
via essential goods and services, and also by generating
financial income through trade, often representing one of
the only sources of cash income to the rural poor. Research
underway in Mexico and Bolivia is looking at the factors
influencing success and the impact of different types of
NTFP commercialization on poverty alleviation and resource
management at household, community, market and product level.
We invite fellow researchers and development practitioners
interested in opportunities and obstacles to NTFP commercialization,
and factors underpinning success or failure, to share comments
and contributions in English and Spanish.
CEPFOR is a project led by UNEP-WCMC,
Cambridge, in close collaboration with ODI,
London, UK. It is funded by the UK Department of International
Development (DFID)
as part of their Forestry Research Programme.
The team behind project CEPFOR includes both international
and local researchers and development practitioners with
extensive experience in community forestry, NTFP use and
management, resource modelling, market chain and socio-economic
analysis.
